Study: Natural immunity to COVID gives 97% protection against severe reinfection for many months
1 min readResearchers say in a freshly launched review that prior infection with COVID-19 presents extended-long lasting and detailed immunity against serious and fatal conditions of the virus.
The review, printed on the web at medRxiv and not yet topic to peer critique, was carried out by a team of scientists mainly centered out of Qatar. The scientists in the preprint mentioned “the future of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic hinges on virus evolution and period of immune security of natural an infection against reinfection.”
They also mentioned that though immunity derived from “purely natural an infection” delivers a somewhat rapidly-waning defense against re-infection, the toughness of all-natural immunity towards significant reinfections was strong and extended-long lasting.
“Safety of pure infection from reinfection wanes and may diminish within just a number of decades,” the researchers notice in the paper, while “safety from serious reinfection stays extremely potent, with no proof for waning, irrespective of variant, for around 14 months just after primary an infection.”
“Success of principal infection against extreme, crucial, or lethal COVID-19 reinfection was 97.3%” above that time period of time, the paper states.
The researchers to assemble their facts studied “duration of security afforded by purely natural an infection, the effect of viral immune evasion on duration of safety, and security against significant reinfection” in Qatar from Feb. 28, 2020 to June 5, 2022.
